NATRUAL BORN SKILLAZ

DJ Chewy

This chump started playing records at the impressionable
age of 14, in the last days of Jungle.
After what feels like probably a lifetime playing at parties and fighting to make it out of the education system and find
his place, he finally settled in Cornwall a few years ago and has
been quietly spreading his funk and reggae-tinged hip-hop
sound to a growing following of heads.

11 years pretending to be a DJ has left chewy scarred by all
forms of musical expression. Favourite sounds include Pete
Rock's horns, Sister Nancy's original dancehall creations, Ray and Christian's guitar
loops, Madlib's dirt,.

DJ’ing has always developed out of chance meetings for him. Hooking up with Dilly Trix
through the Ill nature nights in Truro, they started playing together more and more, trying to develop the relationship between samples, beats and rare waxy treats. They formed the Natural Born Skillas and founded the still youthful Truffle Shuffle club nights to encourage a local scene and spark an interest in the breakier side of hip hop and rekindle the funk fire in Cornwall's burgeoning scene.

A chance meeting with the Rebus delivered the opportunity to play to a wider following and they were invited to run the sound for Deadly Drips.

Known by some as Dirty Harry, Chewy is still loose on the streets trying to make as deep an impression as possible on society and campaigning for badger's rights.

Believe in yourself and walk as far as you're able.

DJ Dilla

Dilla has been on the decks for 10 years and enjoys nothing more than a good chick flick and a box of Kleenex. His roots start in Sheffield, where he began playing in 86’ and the like’s of grandmaster flash, NWA and Public Enemy caught his imagination for Hip Hop and DJ’in. And so with this he became a vinyl Junkie and it wasn’t long before he had his own hip hop funk night in Sheffield.

In 2002 Dilla entered in the DMC championships and came an almighty 6th (outa 6, only joking mate). With his ego boosted he decided to move to Cornwall in ‘03! Not the best place for an aspiring DJ, however since then Dilla has hooked up with Chewy and formed Natural born skillaz and they present 'Truffle Shuffle', a night full of banging breaks and beats. Dilla has also supported big acts such as Katchafire, Dj Format and Ugly Duckling. He has also played along side bands such as The Barnaby Ray Quartet and The North Coast Project.
We couldn’t help ourselves when we herd their beats but get down and bogey, since then we have made him one of the Rebus Collective DJ’s. So Hand’s off....
